PDG Statement

The Pupil Deprivation Grant (PDG) is allocated to schools with pupils who come from low-income families and are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (e-FSM) and pupils who have been looked after continuously for more than six months (LAC).

Schools are expected to make the best use of this funding to implement sustainable strategies that will quickly bring about changes for learners eligible for free school meals or who are LAC.

As a school we have agreed the following three steps:

Summary of activities to be funded by the PDG

ChATT-A speech, language & communication programme (set up with the LA’s speech & language provi­ sion team), to target pupils, who have been tracked and subject to two terms of class intervention. Pupils, who have not made the expected progress, are giving extra support by two members of staff, running a full week timetable, based on speech & language programmes (ChATT/ SaLT) in order to target specific needs.

SaLT-A specific speech & language programme, as advised by the LA’s speech & language therapists­ specific pupils, who have been identified by external S&L therapists, have to have support to incorporate the recommendations.

Numeracy Intervention – Small group work that follows basic number work, as planned and advised by the class teacher in relation to need.

Fine Motor Skills – small group work to enhance FM skills through various practical activities e.g. thread­ ing/ cutting etc.

Smart Moves – small group work for those pupils who have been identified as needing extra support to target specific Fine motor & gross motor skills (DCD activities)

RWinc – small group activities, which continue in the juniors for those pupils still needing to access the RWinc phonics programmes, this is in addition to other the literacy strategies for promoting reading skills.

Catch up Literacy- Specific literacy programme to support the progress of pupils under-attaining in reading.

LEXIA – is a research-proven, literacy based blended learning program that accelerates the development of fundamental literacy skills for students of all abilities.

RM Easimaths – RM Easimaths is designed to help students aged 4-12 improve their maths. RM Easimaths comes packed with activities for students of different ages and abilities – tracking progress and personalising the lessons shown so they progress at a pace appropriate to their own individual abilities.

Wider strategies

LEXIALexia phonics intervention programme was purchased as a tool to support pupils on an individual basis. The programme has an adaptability function that allows the learner to work at their own pace to improve reading.
RM EasimathsRM Easimaths intervention is an application that allows pupils to work on specific maths problems that are adapted to the learners ability.
